IS INDIA GETTING TOO FAT?!

"China with 15.3 million and India with 14.4 million has the highest numbers of obese children." 
In a country like ours, where millions of people sleep without affording two meals a day, can obesity really be a concern?! YOU WILL BE ASTONISHED TO READ THIS!





The National Family Health Survey (NFHS-4), whose survey period was between 2015-16,  revealed that one in five women are now overweight.The survey looked at the findings for 13 states of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Goa, Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Tripura, Uttarakhand, West Bengal and two Union Territories of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Puducherry. (An individual with a BMI of 25 to 29.9 is clinically classified as overweight. A BMI of 30 or more is classified as obese.)

Some of the surprising results concluded were;

  • Goa is home to the largest percentage of obese women at 33.5%, while Sikkim is home to the largest percentage of obese men at 34.8%.
  • While 26.3 per cent men were found to be overweight in urban areas, 14.3 per cent men were obese in rural areas of the country.
  • Nearly 31.3 per cent women were found to obese in urban areas and 15.0 per cent in rural areas.

"By 2025, India will have over 17 million obese children and stand second among 184 countries where the number of obese children are concerned, says a study published in Paediatric Obesity, an international journal."
